I developed this work in response to a conversation I had with one of my university friends. She said to me “I could never be an artist, I can’t even draw a straight line”. I had heard that before, a fairly common saying. It occurred to me that I also can’t draw a straight line, and so, I set out to design a robot to do this for me. I thought that while I’m at it, I might as well create a painting robot to do all of my painting for me. Of course, this was a failure, and what I discovered is that ‘there is no such thing as a straight line’ (the text seen on the paper posted on the easel in the image below). In fact, the “perfect” thing is unimaginable, but only because of the limitations of our mind.
