Whenever I am asked to build a website or include a website in a companies development, I always ask, why?
What is the practical or functional outcome expected from your website and how will your website easily integrate and directly improve your companies performance?
These questions are really important because there are so many options for ‘do it yourself’ simple, yet modular, CMS solutions out there – you want to be sure to make the right choice and within a reasonable budget. Websites need to be powerful enough to constantly evolve and they need to be easily accessible and modifiable. Websites also have to be responsive in order to work on platforms from mobile devices to tablets and computer screens. A good design will be user tested and easy to use for a very targeted demographic that you are seeking to engage. You want to know that your website is working so you have to use designs that facilitate a strong ‘call to action’ that directly impacts your bottom line and improves your business. If you can answer; what is the exact goal of your website? – then you will know what you need to do to design your users experience. By integrating your design with your business goals; you will be able to use social engineering, experience design, and interaction design to guide your prospective customers to take action. The two main, often combined, reasons I develop websites are to increase sales and improve automation. Sales and operations improvements can be made easy with up to date, flexible, inexpensive and easy to use modular content management systems. Each case is unique and I welcome the challenge of building profit systems online.
